The well-known Heinrich’s Law notes that behind every serious accident there are necessarily 29 minor accidents, 300 near misses and 1,000 hidden hazards. The same law applies to food safety: if information and data on those “warning signs” and “early indications” are collected in time, effectively analyzed, identified and used for early warning, accidents can be effectively prevented.

Sugon recently won the National Food Safety Risk Assessment Data Center project. It will build a food risk-assessment business application platform (the application platform), make full use of big-data technology to collect relevant data covering the whole food-safety chain in time, and fuse spatiotemporal, geographic, environmental, meteorological and medical-health information to analyze and identify risk, achieve early warning and prevention of food-safety incidents, and fundamentally guard against the occurrence and development of food-safety risk.

Through unified portal, user-permission, basic-coding and briefing-support components, the application platform supports deployment and interconnection of the basic information-management system, and achieves good performance and reliable scaling of each business system on a distributed architecture.

Sugon divides the overall IT system into multiple business-module zones according to correlation, management and other needs. Each zone has its own switching equipment, servers, security-boundary devices and so on. Access control among zones is applied level by level according to business-system correlation, data-flow access requirements and system security-control requirements. Sound logical partitioning and security-domain division are essential foundations of a data-center network.

As the platform’s core resource, the storage system must, besides strong scalability, also resolve bottlenecks of slow data transfer and excessive records in a single database, raising data-processing capability and efficiency.

For the application platform’s storage performance and function needs, Sugon used the Sugon DS800 multi-controller unified storage product as the data-storage resource pool. After multiple project docking tests, the DS800 won high customer recognition in stability, capacity, performance, scalability and manageability. In particular, the product’s scalable active-active architecture promotes continuous, stable service at the infrastructure layer, avoiding business interruption caused by system upgrades, server downtime and similar events, bringing higher scalability and more flexible resource allocation to business systems, and substantially reducing upfront investment and later O&M cost.

The food risk-assessment business application platform built by Sugon will create an information-service portal with unified standards and unified security management, deploy a unified national health-security database, and strongly support six major business categories: public health, medical services, medical security (NRCMS), drug supply, family planning and comprehensive management.
