China Mobile AI foundation platform: forward-looking layout and practice

Hubei Mobile video cloud

An operator’s most direct physical marketing channel is the business hall. To keep pace with mobile-communications development and to keep business halls orderly and safe, Hubei Mobile needed a cloud monitoring system that integrates brand promotion, service content, promotions, staff training, incident handling, and business-hall security, providing users with a better information platform.

From Lingxi to Lingxi Cloud: building the Migu AI platform

Migu is China Mobile’s specialized subsidiary for the mobile internet, responsible for product provision, operations, and services in digital content. As the internet has extended from the PC desktop era to the mobile-internet era, more mobile devices have entered consumers’ view. This is an era that needs new human–computer interaction. Intelligent speech offers a way to interact without touching the device, removing the constraint of frequent touchscreen taps. Connecting most devices to a LAN enables voice control that answers a single call. The launch of Lingxi Cloud shows the considerable resolve of a traditional operator.

China Mobile Big Cloud project

In the cloud-service market, China Mobile has long been committed to cloud-computing research and application, launching the “Big Cloud” program as early as 2007. China Mobile Software is China Mobile’s cloud-facility builder, cloud-service provider and cloud-ecosystem aggregator. Centered on Mobile Cloud operations, its products and services are widely used in government, finance, manufacturing, transportation, healthcare and other industries. From 2014 to date, China Mobile Big Cloud has helped the government-and-enterprise branch build 7 resource pools and manage one provincial resource pool, at a scale of 10,000 servers, helping that branch provide cloud computing and big-data services to tens of thousands of enterprise customers. Beginning in 2019, the Mobile Big Cloud platform planned data centers at a scale of more than 100,000 servers.

Jiangsu Telecom distributed cloud storage

In recent years, as cloud computing has developed rapidly, a large number of Jiangsu Telecom business platforms have moved to the cloud, the number of virtual machines has risen sharply, and capacity and performance of the existing resource-pool compute and storage have become insufficient. The storage system has been planned by tier to meet differentiated business storage-performance needs, but although midrange storage is deployed, high-end and low-end storage are still lacking. Following the tiered-storage plan, China Telecom Jiangsu proposed object-based distributed storage for low-end use, so as to raise storage-space utilization and lower cost.

Migu AI-domain foundation platform

Migu is China Mobile’s specialized subsidiary for the mobile internet, responsible for product provision, operations, and services in digital content. It is the sole operating entity for China Mobile’s music, video, reading, games, and animation digital businesses, with five subsidiaries: Migu Music, Migu Video, Migu Digital Media, Migu Interactive Entertainment, and Migu Animation.

A new-generation BSS 3.0 IT cloud for telecom

China Telecom Group is actively advancing IT to the cloud with new-generation BSS 3.0 as the entry point, creating a best practice for moving a large, extremely complex business-support system to the cloud, and supporting China Telecom’s “enterprise to the cloud” strategy. New-generation BSS 3.0 is first developed on distributed PaaS platform components independently developed by China Telecom Group, and is the first telecom business operations-support system to put core IT capabilities on the cloud. Full application of BSS 3.0 will, with big-data intelligence, empower customer operations, channel management, and front-line and customer-experience improvement. The new “platform + application” architecture brings not only technical change but, more importantly, a substantial rise in market-operations efficiency and a breakthrough of business-development bottlenecks.
