R&D and upgrades of climate-model systems are a focus of the meteorological community. As one of three main projects in the national meteorological science and technology innovation program, the subseasonal-to-seasonal (S2S) climate-prediction project led by the National Climate Centre carries the task of advancing the meteorological enterprise.
S2S aims to extend the forecast scale from two weeks to 60 days with a new climate-model system, enabling seamless climate prediction. To strengthen meteorological agencies’ scientific support for climate-change response, the National Meteorological Information Center adopted Sugon’s self-developed ParaStor300 distributed storage. Its high performance and high reliability meet S2S application needs.
Strong processing power to support numerical-model development
Numerical weather-prediction models have grown from a simple governing equation into one of the world’s most complex software projects. As forecast accuracy continues to rise, meteorological data have exploded in volume, placing extreme demands on reliable storage and efficient processing.
With Sugon ParaStor300 distributed storage, every storage node can independently serve data, and the system’s analysis and processing capability rises by at least 30%.
Serving customers across industries with quality service
Sugon has deep experience in meteorology. In 2018 it provided analysis data for forecasts of typhoons Maria, Ampil, and Mangkhut, and it supported numerical-forecast products for the SCO Qingdao Summit and the China International Import Expo in Shanghai.
Sugon ParaStor distributed storage now serves meteorology, oceanography, water conservancy, finance, broadcasting, transportation, and other industries. Going forward, Sugon will continue to strengthen independent product R&D, persist with diversified, high-quality local service, and deliver unified, efficient, intelligent storage solutions to more customers.
