Sany Heavy Industry’s main business is equipment manufacturing with “engineering” as its theme. Leading products cover a full series including concrete machinery, excavators, lifting machinery, road machinery, pile-driving machinery, wind-power equipment, port machinery, petroleum equipment, coal equipment, and precision machine tools.
The Sany Heavy Industry research institute currently includes the Changsha headquarters institute and the Shanghai branch. R&D staff use computer design as their basic working method, and CAD, PDM, and other technical means for design, research, and development.
Customer Requirements
As Sany Heavy Industry’s R&D scale continues to expand, R&D departments face increasingly severe task pressure. To raise competitive advantage in the industry and expand Sany’s market, continuous innovation is required—a very arduous task. How to do these things well and thoroughly is the top priority for Sany R&D staff. To do a good job, one must first sharpen one’s tools. They therefore hoped to build an advanced CAE simulation analysis system to help R&D staff accelerate innovation and create more value for the enterprise.
Solution
Based on Sany Heavy Industry’s application characteristics, Sugon chose multi-core architecture server nodes to build the computing platform. Multi-socket SMP nodes can give full play to the characteristics of structural computation, achieving a good computational speedup while maximizing the scale of a single case.
After the system was built, computing efficiency of Sany Heavy Industry’s ANSYS, ABAQUS, Fluent, Matlab, RecurDyn, and other applications improved greatly.

After the system entered service, it greatly raised CAE simulation capability at the Sany Heavy Industry research institute, shortened the product R&D cycle, and raised product market competitiveness.
