Meizhou–Shantou Railway integrated video surveillance system

Background

Integrated video surveillance plays an increasingly important role in railway safety and has become a key part of railway safety assurance.

The Meizhou–Shantou Railway, from Meizhou to Chaoshan, is in eastern Guangdong. It starts in Meizhou, passes through Jieyang, and ends in Chaozhou. The line has seven stations: Meizhou West, Shejiang North, Jianqiao, Fengshun East, Jieyang North, Chaoshan Airport, and Chaoshan, of which Chaoshan is an existing station on the Xiamen–Shenzhen Railway.

To keep railway operations safe, the Meizhou–Shantou Railway is building an integrated video surveillance system to monitor the line, station platforms, and other sites.

Requirements Analysis

In recent years, as railway informatization has deepened, integrated video surveillance has played an increasingly important role in production operations, security, and transport command. After analysis, the main needs of the professional departments for the integrated video surveillance system include:

(1) Existing video storage was built in different years, with different device types and access methods.

(2) The integrated surveillance video system must support massive data storage and elastic expansion.

(3) Railway video surveillance has many users and many user types.

(4) Railway departments generally lack enough highly skilled operations staff and need information infrastructure to provide consistent, intelligent, automated maintenance and management tools.

Solution

(1) Video front-end servers

Front-end servers use Sugon Tiankuo servers to complete video management, recording, and distribution and forwarding. Sugon Tiankuo servers have single-socket high-core processors at low cost, meeting the integrated video surveillance system’s server requirements.

(2) Video storage system

Video ingest uses storage with centralized backup of important images. Video surveillance information along the line is stored nearby at each station’s Class I/II video access nodes.

ParaStor300S distributed storage meets the need for large-capacity storage and supports concurrent read/write with outstanding performance.

ParaStor300S distributed storage can provide multi-device centralized management based on cluster-management technology, with very high system redundancy and security.

The storage system as a whole is scale-out and supports online expansion, avoiding interruption of business systems during expansion.

Customer Benefits

The system supports massive storage and fast playback, meeting customer needs.

Storage uses erasure coding to raise data availability. When one node is damaged, other nodes continue to provide access without affecting availability.

Unified, comprehensive network management meets system operations and maintenance needs.

Standard interfaces enable interconnection with other systems and alarm linkage. Secondary development of image resources enables fast linkage among systems, facilitating command and rescue, raising railway operations-management efficiency, and reducing the incidence of transport accidents and the extent of disaster losses.
