CEPRI New Energy Building NWP operations center retrofit

Background

The numerical weather prediction operations center is on the fourth floor of the China Electric Power Research Institute science and R&D center building, with a floor area of 500 square meters, of which the main equipment room is 300 square meters and the exhibition and consultation analysis room is 200 square meters. The UPS battery room is on basement level 2, with about 108 square meters of usable area. The outdoor air-conditioning site is on the fourth-floor podium roof.

The project procures in total 6 groups of cabinet row-level micro-module systems and 2 groups of UPS battery systems, and provides supporting electrical retrofit of the equipment room and a new power and environment monitoring system, to improve the equipment-room environment in support of safe, stable, and reliable operation of the numerical weather prediction center’s high-performance computing cluster.

Sugon Solution

For the project’s space requirements of 500 square meters of building area, 300 square meters of main equipment room, and 200 square meters of exhibition and consultation analysis room, Sugon provided the C1000 row-level micro-module system. The Sugon C1000 row-level micro-module system uses fully contained integrated cabinets, with air ducts integrated with the cabinets rather than ordinary cabinets plus external return-air containment kits. Sugon cabinets are visually clean, occupy little space, and can effectively widen maintenance and visitor aisles to 1.2 meters. The row-level cabinet system has good noise reduction; noise of the contained system is below 60 dB. Cabinets are configured with electromagnetic locks and automatic door-opening devices to keep the system safe even under extreme over-temperature conditions. Air conditioners use inverter compressors that automatically adjust cooling output and lower air-conditioning energy use. When utility power is interrupted, indoor units can be powered by UPS and, together with the automatic door-opening system, spread heat into the equipment room to avoid servers shutting down from sudden over-temperature. Cabinets themselves use high-end aluminum-magnesium alloy profiles rather than sheet metal or zinc-iron alloy, meeting a 1,500 kg load requirement while greatly lowering self-weight. The overall cabinet design is visually strong, with LED light strips, offering good display quality and a sense of technology.
