Beijing Daxing Airport cloud platform

Project Introduction

Beijing’s new airport is on the north bank of the Yongding River, between Lixian Town and Yufa Town in Daxing District, Beijing, and Guangyang District, Langfang, Hebei. It is 46 km north of Tiananmen, 4.3 km west of the Beijing–Kowloon Railway, about 1 km south of the north bank dike of the Yongding River, 67 km from Capital Airport, and 85 km from Tianjin Airport.

Phase one of the new-airport cloud platform is designed for a 2025 target of 72 million passengers, 2 million tons of cargo and mail, and 620,000 aircraft movements. The airfield reference code is 4F. Main construction includes four runways in a “three longitudinal and one transverse” layout, a 700,000-square-meter terminal (the main building and piers meeting demand of 72 million and 45 million passengers respectively), cargo terminals, comprehensive cargo supporting buildings, and customs-supervised warehouses, as well as auxiliary production and living facilities such as an aviation-security training center, comprehensive management buildings, and passenger overnight buildings, plus on-site comprehensive transport, water supply, power, cooling, heating, gas, information and communications, fire and rescue, rainwater and sewage, greening, and other supporting facilities, and an off-site living-support base. This phase is expected to enter service in 2019.

Business Challenges

The construction goal of the Beijing new-airport information system is: with the operations-management concept of “Airport 3.0 smart airport” at the core, complemented by “Internet + airport,” use cloud computing, IoT, big data, mobile internet, and other new-generation information technologies to build a stereoscopic, fully interconnected airport information system, achieve information sharing and comprehensive collaboration, and on the one hand support efficient, safe operations, quality service, and fine management of the airport and raise operating revenue, and on the other hand fully support multi-party collaboration between the airport and related business units, providing real-time information sharing and extensive collaboration among parties, and providing all parties with situation prediction and proactive service.

With the support of information and ELV systems, the new airport should have the following capabilities: IoT-enabled, visual, fine-grained, personalized, intelligent, and virtualized.

Solution

To build a stable, reliable new-airport cloud platform and provide unified compute, storage, and network resources for upper-layer applications, Sugon provided Beijing’s new airport with a foundation IaaS platform using a standard, open cloud technical architecture. The platform is designed to run continuously and reliably 365 days a year, 24 hours a day, combining advanced capability with practicality. The completed platform can provide a flexible, stable foundation runtime environment for information systems (including IT foundation resources, IT support software, and application-management services) so that business systems run smoothly and efficiently on the platform.

In this new-airport cloud-platform project, Sugon Cloudview virtualization software (570 CPU licenses) is used to deploy production operations systems and applications of higher importance. By network connection zone, this includes ITC (information service building), PCR01 (terminal main equipment room), external WAN DMZ, external internet DMZ, and the operations management zone. Domains A and B can migrate VMs across domains, fully supporting the operations-management concept of “Airport 3.0 smart airport.”
