CAS Earth Big Data Science Project dedicated compute data center

Background

The dedicated computing project of the CAS Computer Network Information Center for Big Earth Data Science Engineering hosts dedicated computing for the program. The new equipment room covers about 495 m². Following national codes and equipment-room design standards, and combining specific requirements with the building structure and the principles of safety, reliability, and appearance, the design comprehensively considers equipment-room management, operator workflows, safety, equipment and material transport, and installation and maintenance for heat dissipation. Stable, efficient operation of this dedicated compute data center requires reliable equipment-room infrastructure to keep IT systems efficient, stable, and reliable.

Starting from the actual needs of the equipment-room project, the design aims at a highly standardized room and strictly follows the direction of “reasonable investment, unified planning, based on the present, moderately ahead.” It offers users a fully optimized integrated solution. The data-center design targets the fourth-generation data-center characteristics of intelligence, green operation, modularization, dual-layer separation, and dual-layer fusion. It fully considers fusion of IT equipment and infrastructure, unified planning of power, cooling, and monitoring, and provides a cabinet-pool solution that is easy to manage and maintain, easy to expand, and highly energy-efficient.

The C2000 cabinet-pool micro-module integrates cabinets, power distribution, cooling, monitoring, and cabling. Two rows of cabinets, with in-row air conditioners evenly distributed among them, form a contained-aisle pool. A contained cold pool encloses cold air from the in-row units in the aisle; after heat exchange, hot air disperses through the room and is cooled back into the cold pool, so cooling is fully used by IT equipment. A contained hot pool encloses hot air in the aisle while cold air is supplied to the whole room, avoiding mixing of cold and hot air; part of the cooling also improves the room environment, so no additional room air conditioners are required. The high-efficiency energy-saving design responds to national energy-conservation policy, and sealed thermal insulation in the equipment-room area reduces energy loss.
